Q City Singers received a $2000 grant from the Rotary Club of Quesnel this week in support of our choral folder purchase, which helps to ensure the physical protection of our sheet music investment and provides a secure and professional way for our members to handle their music on stage. Without this donation, it would not have been possible A big thank you to our local Rotarians and their ongoing support of the arts in Quesnel! Here, QCS Board Members Katrina Scott and Kimberly Simpson, accept the cheque from the Rotary Club President Sandra Lewis. Our beautiful new folders! For more information about the Rotary Club in Quesnel, and the great work that they do, check out their website and Facebook page.

This week we had our first performance of the season! We were invited to be the opening performers for the Canadian Concert Recital held at the Maple Park Alliance Church here in Quesnel. The picture above was from our warmup, but there was standing room only for the entire recital. A great turnout for all those involved.
Below is a fun clip from the first song in our performance
and another clip of the second song we performed!

Q City Singers would like to thank Cathy Heinzelman for organizing this fun event each year. Although we'll have other events in the meantime, we look forward to next years Canadian Concert.
Hello Q City Singers Community! We are two months into the 2017-2018 season already and want to share a couple things with our community members to keep you updated! Our First Concert! November 20-24 is Canadian Music Week in honour of the Patron Saint of music, St. Cecilia. To celebrate this, Cathy Heinzelman a well known figure in the Quesnel Music scene, has invited the Q City Singers to perform at the Canadian Music Recital. This was a fantastic informal event last year as the choir got to watch music students of all ages perform music; the common theme being that each piece is Canadian composed or arranged. The details are as follows: Tuesday, November 21st 6:30 pm Maple Park Alliance Church, 2075 Balsam Ave Admission by donation Please see the Canadian Music Recital Poster here for more information Wait-list for Spring Session
The Q City Singers has officially reached its member cap at 65 registered members for this fall session. As some people have let us know that they are unable to return in the spring (travel plans, etc.), we have started a wait-list of those people interested in joining us. Please let us know if you'd like to be on it too! Christmas Performances/Events We have a few Community Events that the Q City Singers are planning to attend during the December. Stay tuned for updates through email or on our Facebook page on where you can catch us celebrating the Christmas season in song Thank you for being valued members of our larger choir community. We hope you have a great month, and see you at our next concert! Hello, and Happy Halloween!
Just a reminder that there will be no rehearsal tomorrow Tuesday, October 31st as it is Halloween. This was included in your season calendar that was distributed in September, but if you have misplaced your copy, you can print off a new one here! Our calendar is always available online as well See you Tuesday November 7th for our next rehearsal. Although all of our members are receiving update emails, not all have discovered where their email provider/app is 'hiding' them (Junk, spam, etc.). Please remind your choir member friends if you happen to see them between now and Tuesday. Kimberly Simpson, QCS Secretary Have you been coming to rehearsals to “check out” the choir?
Registration closes for the fall session on October 3rd – we hope you will decide to join us! Did you know that we cap our membership at 65 members each session? The list is getting full, so we recommend that you register sooner rather than later to guarantee your spot! We will be taking registrations before practice tomorrow, so come a few minutes early to fill out your forms and pay your fees if you want to officially join the choir. Have you filled out your forms, but not yet paid your fees? We have a handful of members who have filled out registration forms, but have not yet paid their fees and/or music deposit. You are not registered until payment is received, so come early on Tuesday night to take care of the details with our registration team to guarantee your spot! :) Are you interested in joining one of our Committees? Not only are we a member-funded society, but we are member-run; we rely heavily on volunteers to make the magic happen every year! Are you interested in Fundraising? Is event planning your thing? Do you have an interest in creating a sense of community within the choir? We are looking for members to join our Fundraising, Performance and Marketing, and Social committees for the 2017/2018 season! The QCS Board of Directors is thrilled to welcome Conductor Corry Moriarty to the Q City Singers family! Corry comes to Q City Singers with over 15 years of musical experience; she has a master’s degree in music education, a diploma in vocal performance, and is an accomplished conductor and arranger. She has conducted several community, high-school and church-based choirs; most recently, she spent 3 years leading the Sisters of Mercy women’s chorus in Regina, Saskatchewan. Corry recently relocated to Quesnel, and was excited to discover that we have a vibrant arts scene and an established community choir here; she was thrilled to learn that we were also looking for a conductor! Corry is very excited to get to know everyone and start singing on September 12th. Corry will be joining us at the Quesnel Farmer’s Market this weekend; come out on Saturday, August 26th between 11am and 1pm and help us give her a warm Cariboo welcome! Members of the board will be at our Q City Singers information booth from 8:30am - 1:30pm to visit with you and answer any questions you may have. We leave you with a picture of Corry signing the letter of agreement for her new role with us yesterday. We had a great evening sharing ideas to support the choir’s future growth; we are looking forward to lots of laughter and musical learning under Corry’s enthusiastic leadership. We hope you are excited as we are to start the season! See you all soon,
The Q City Singers Board of Directors (Katrina Scott, Katrina Lindblom, Siggi Stoldt, Kimberly Simpson, Lois Flanagan, Cora Koyama and Bev Graham)
**Update Aug 18th - 3:02pm: The survey is now closed. Thank you so much for all of your input! It helped us make our last minute decision on the song. Don't worry, we really loved all three songs, but had to pick one to order today!
In the future, we will do "what should we order" surveys like this but allow much more time for response :) -Q City Singers Board of Directors** We need your help! Please fill out the survey below :) Hello Past, Present and Future Q City Singers members!

Maybe you just need to take the musical leap? Do you know someone? Contact us! Missing Music - Over the weekend, we were able to re-organize and catalogue our current sheet music collection. We are missing quite a few pieces of music that we have purchased, either in 2015-2016 or 2016-2017. The purchased pieces are original scores (smaller than letter sized paper, often have a colored front page). If you discover any lying around, or know of someone who may have forgotten to return theirs, please let us know! We would be happy to arrange pick up. First Practice - Our first practice of the season will be on Tuesday September 12th at 6:30pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church. |
